Founded in 1853 by Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Émile Tissot in the Swiss city of Le Locle, the brand initially began as a comptoir, a small assembly workshop for watches.

They were among the first to mass-produce pocket watches with dual time zones in 1853, followed by the first anti-magnetic watch in 1929.
